Michael Meets Thomas Gregory the Inspiration For His Swimming Career

Tues 6th October 2015

On a rainy October night in central London, Michael Ventre met up with Thomas Gregory, who on 6th Sept 1988 became the youngest person to swim the English Channel aged 11 years 11 months old.

Watching television coverage from his home in Botswana as a nine year old boy,  Michael was inspired by Thomas' swim and decided that he too one day would conquer the English Channel.

"It was amazing to meet Thomas, he was my boyhood hero. I was really apprehensive meeting him but he was fantastic and we got on really well.  I really wouldn't be doing this swim if it hadn't been for him and it means a lot to me that he is giving his support and backing my swim".

“I am delighted to be supporting Michael in what is a truly brave and amazing venture. It is humbling to be referred to as someone who inspired him at a young age - it is in fact me who is inspired by him, rather than the other way round. I wish him all the very best, and would simply encourage people to get behind this endeavour. Go for it Michael – anything is possible”
